1. Introduction

Welcome to my personal blog, wiktorjarosz.com. This privacy policy explains how I, Wiktor Jarosz, collect, use, and protect your personal data when you visit my website.

I am the Data Controller for this website. This means I am responsible for deciding how your personal data is processed.

2. What Data I Collect and Why

I collect data in the following ways:

A. Newsletter (via MailerLite)

  • Data Collected: Your email address (and first name, if you provide it).
  • Purpose: To send you my newsletter, which includes blog updates, IT-related content, and news.
  • Legal Basis: Consent. You provide this data by actively subscribing to the newsletter. You can withdraw this consent at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in any newsletter email.
  • Data Processor: Your data is stored and managed by MailerLite, our newsletter service provider.

B. Website Analytics (via Google Analytics)

  • Data Collected: Anonymized IP address, device type, browser, pages visited, and time spent on site.
  • Purpose: To understand how visitors use my website so I can improve its content and user experience.
  • Legal Basis: Consent. Google Analytics is only enabled if you explicitly consent to it via the cookie consent banner (managed by Complianz). If you do not consent, this tracking will not occur.
  • Data Processor: Google LLC.

C. Spam Protection (via Google reCAPTCHA)

  • Data Collected: Information about your hardware and software (like IP address, browser information, and mouse movements) to check if you are a human and not a bot.
  • Purpose: To protect my website (e.g., on contact forms or comment sections) from spam and automated abuse.
  • Legal Basis: Legitimate Interest. It is in my legitimate interest to secure my website from automated attacks.
  • Data Processor: Google LLC.

3. Cookies

This website uses cookies and similar technologies to ensure it functions properly, to enhance security (like Google reCAPTCHA), and to collect analytics data.

Analytics cookies (from Google Analytics) are only placed on your device after you provide your explicit consent via the cookie banner.

For a complete and detailed list of all cookies I use, their purpose, their duration, and to manage your consent preferences at any time, please read the full Cookie Policy.

4. Data Sharing and International Transfers

I do not sell your personal data. I only share it with the third-party processors mentioned above to provide the services described:

  • Google LLC (for Analytics and reCAPTCHA): Based in the United States.
  • MailerLite (for newsletter): A U.S. company.

Both Google and MailerLite are based outside the European Union (EU). When your data is transferred to them, it is protected by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), which are European Commission-approved data transfer mechanisms that require these companies to protect your data to a standard equivalent to GDPR.

5. Data Retention

I keep your data only for as long as necessary:

  • Newsletter Data: I will retain your email address as long as you remain subscribed to the newsletter.
  • Analytics Data: This data is typically aggregated and/or anonymized and is retained by Google according to its policies for the purpose of trend analysis.

6. Your GDPR Rights

As a user, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • Right to Access: You can request a copy of the data I hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: You can ask me to correct any inaccurate data.
  • Right to Erasure: You can request that I delete your personal data.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw your consent for the newsletter (by unsubscribing) or for analytics (by changing your cookie settings) at any time.
  • Right to Object: You can object to my processing of your data based on legitimate interest (e.g., reCAPTCHA).
  • Right to Restrict Processing: You can ask me to temporarily stop processing your data.
  • Right to Data Portability: You can request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact me at wiktor@wiktorjarosz.com.

7. Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you believe I am not processing your data in accordance with the law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
